Recently I heard two of the best comments yet on the war. The first is below:
It occurred to me that the war is very much like that Star Trek episode. Captain Kirk's Star Trek. Do you remember the one where these 2 planets are at war, but they fought the
war with computer simulations. the computrers would list the death tolls. Then the people would line up in extermination rooms. It was all socivilized. That seems to be what we are trying to make war these days, civilized. We haven't resorted to computers and extermination rooms yet, but they may not be far away. We talk of "acceptable losses". We use "smart" bombs and "smart" missles to hit only the "bad" buildings and kill only the "bad" men. We make rules that say you are only allowed to kill people in certain ways. It is okay to kill someone as long as you don't use "mass destruction". And don't show there faces afterward. We don't want to disturb the people back home who are watching, clicking between the war and reruns of Friends. We convince ourselves that it is okay to destroy buildings, some of which are peoples homes because afterall we are going to build new ones when we are through. All these efforts made to civilize and sanitize.
Captain Kirk had it right. Take away the civilization and the sanitization. Show war for what it really is. Maybe then diplomacy would have a better chance!$BlogItemBody$>

So its almost been a week at war... what does everyone think? It is getting sad the number of casualties. I must admit I was a bit overly optimistic I believe. I never thought this many people would have been killed already. Despite my general opinion that going to war was a bad idea- I hope it ends soon.
How many of you were for going to war? Anyone think we should just end it now?
On a related note, Georgi has now asked for 75 billion for the war. That coes to about 300 bucks per person. How many americans do you think would have been so willing to go to war if they had to write a 300 dollar check for every member of their family first?$BlogItemBody$>

Got mail from Chuck yesterday. Two cool things, a bunch of pictures taken by Chuck in Senegal and Europe. One is a hilarious picture of Pape dressed as Chuck. Also got a bunch of new pictures from Rhoda. They have been posted for her family and friends.
Both the Chuck and Rhoda pictures can be seen in the Afropean section.$BlogItemBody$>

ok I am sitting at my desk today and I see a person pass outside. They have a Coke Classic 20oz in hand. This same person also had about 150 too many pounds on their body. Now I have heard all kinds of reasons people are fat. Glands, thyroid, etc. These may be true and I feel bad when I see an obscenely overweight person. No one wants to be fat. But what is with the Classic Coke. Its got at least 300 calories in it. Why not opt for the diet? Even if the taste is much different- 300 vs 0 calories is a HUGE difference.
No pun intended.$BlogItemBody$>

On another note, I get a lot of great blogs a comments from Chris, Staci, Chuck, & Beth. But I have at least 20 unique visitors a day- and NO ONE else comments. Comment away- the 5 of us are getting bored of reading each others stuff.$BlogItemBody$>
