Mom had a good idea the other day. We were talking about the election and how it frustrates both of us that the President gets to spend the last year or so of his presidency campaigning for the next round. Using his paycheck from us to take time to campaign for himself. AND, everyone knows the incumbent has a big advantage anyway (can host fundraising dinners in White House, etc.)

So, my Mom said (as if she had thought this for years) that a presidential term needs to be 6 years, with no chance of re-election. Bam. 6 years. You're done. You don't get more.

This way the playing field is much better. Both candidates are "new comers" to the White House. The current Pres. actually has to do his job instead of gallavanting around the country on a campaign trail.

What do you think? 6 years? What if the person was awful (ie: Bush?) Would you be able to handle another 2 years of Bush if it guaranteed never having to have him in office again?

Found a really cool part of the New York Times that lets you look at the election in terms of a U.S. map. Doesn't look like good news for Kerry to me, however.

So, I hate to bring it up, but Todd hasn't yet...Poor Martha.  Five months in jail, then five more stuck in her home with no doubt a hideous braclet around her ankle.

The thing that pisses me off is the blatent unfairness of it all.  Yes, yes, life is unfair, but sometimes it's unfair and unjust and stupid.

Martha Stewart had dirty dealings.  Fine.  Did it hurt me?  Nope.  Diana Ross was arrested for drunk driving in Tucson.  Could it have hurt me?  You'd better believe it.  The Diva might have crashed into me (or my sisters, who work at the resort she was staying at and driving around at).

My point?  Diana Ross, who endangered lives, got 2 days in minimal security prison (she came and left, the 48 hours were not served consecutively).  Martha Stewart gets 5 months of actual prison?

Not until the Enron guys are sitting right next to her will I think it's just...
