Where is the world news tonight? $BlogItemTitle$>
I realize that things in the Middle East have been nasty for a while. Many innocent people have been killed, there is a holy war and lots of "unrest", as they say. Now we're over there with troops (again) so I understand why we have so much at stake and why the Mid East continues to take up most of our news.
But what about the rest of the friggin' world!?!? American news is always all about Palestine, Israel, Iraq, Iran, etc. Names of leaders and political figures from the area are stuck in my head because they are the leading story on the news everyday.
But when do we hear about politics of Africa? of South America? China? India (and I don't mean tsunami). What about things in Germany? France? News that does NOT involve the US, like a German election?
We only hear news about the rest of the world when it involves the US. Like, Bush or Rice visits Europe...blah blah blah.
Now, I realize we live in America, so our news is going to have an American slant. But we follow the politics of the Mid East like it's our own backyard. Meanwhile, in our backyards of Mexico and Canada, who the hell knows what's going on!?
Am I making any sense here? I know the Mid East is important but there are important things happening all over. And, so far as people and just land area goes, it's a relatively small part of the world.
I guess I'm just tired of the whole thing and it makes it hard to listen to. "Oh yeah, Israel and Palestine aren't getting along? Interesting...give me something that hasn't been going on for 2000 YEARS!!!"$BlogItemBody$>
